This one day interactive course is suitable for new Managers and Deputies responsible for the day to day running of the setting.
Leadership & Management learning objectives:
We hope we provide information for you to take away and implement in practice. Today could also be a day to reflect on practice and ask the questions 'why do we do that?' and 'how can I/we make it better'.
We will explore the following subjects:
- Exploring the Ofsted Toolkit and how this incorporates within your role and responsibilities
- Supporting more highly skilled leaders in line with the Best Start in Life objectives Embedding Best Start in Life Principles.
- Creating a team – safer recruitment and retention
- Decision making
- SWOT analysis and USP’s.
- Staff management – START, STOP, CONTINUE. Change theory and common responses to change
- Managing conflict and general staff performance. Skills attributes
- Leadership styles
- Tuckmans – teams, Forming, Storming, norming, performing etc.
- 360 leadership approach – staff appraisal etc… Developing your leadership in the EY’s
- Wellbeing and supporting staff

Safer Recruitment Webinar
NEW Safer recruitment training has been designed to give you an understanding and confidence to implement robust safer recruitment practices to ensure those working with children are safe and suitable to do so. KCSIE state whoever is involved in the recruitment process must complete safer recruitment training. To maintain consistency with robust recruitment procedures it is strongly advised that early years providers follow the advice in this guidance to ensure a safe environment for children.
Those with recruitment responsibilities should be committed to ensuring all recruitment is undertaken fairly, effectively and safely and in accordance with legislation. The training covers effective recruitment and selection process including rigorous pre-employment checks and ongoing suitability to help deter, reject, prevent and detect those who seek to harm children from applying to work in your organisation. Safe recruitment policies and practice is a key preventative step.
This course is suitable for management and those with recruitment responsibilities.
