AET - Good Autism Practice
This training will support practitioners working directly with children on the autism spectrum or on the pathway to a diagnosis in early years settings. By attending this training it will:
- enable practitioners to develop their knowledge and understanding of good autism practice.
- provide guidelines and activities to help practitioners to improve their practice when caring for or working with autistic children.
- introduce practitioners to the early years autism competency framework to evaluate and develop how they work.

Curiosity Programme Training
Delivered by Lyndsay Barlow, Co-owner, and Director of Attention Autism & Specially Subsidised for Buckinghamshire Early Years Service
The Curiosity Programme targets creating interest and delight in interaction and communication exchanges. The programme introduces strategies for building connections with trusted adults, non-speaking social communication skills, curiosity and early play. There are demonstrations of the techniques in action, films of the work with children, practical hands-on experience for participants and ideas for activities. The workshop provides opportunities for attendees to try activities at each stage, discuss its’ application in their setting and develop confidence in running the programme within their school.
This programme is designed to support children
- who need to work 1:1 before starting the Attention Autism 4 stage programme.
- are too young to be working in a group e.g. developmentally younger than 2.6 years old
- have additional complex needs and would benefit from a programme to encourage them to flourish in the earliest stages of communication, interaction and attention development.
- do not yet have the skills needed for group working.

Early Years SENCO Briefing Webinar
EY SENCO Briefings are online webinars run by members of the Early Years Service who have specialisms and expertise in supporting children with additional needs. The groups are an opportunity to hear local and national SEND updates, access SEND related training and ask individual questions of our SEND Advisors. If your SENCO is unable to attend, please try and send someone in their place. More details of the focus of the groups will be available termly on the EY SENCO Briefing page of our website.

I'm Not the SENCO - what should I be doing? Webinar
This course will provide EYFS practitioners with practical information about implementing the SEND Code of Practice focusing on managing and developing the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle through the Graduated Approach and SEN Support Plans. Invaluable for practitioners liaising with their SENCO to improve outcomes for children with Special Educational Needs or a Disability.

Seeing Beyond Behaviour - Webinar
This training session allows EYFS practitioners opportunity to consider effective strategies for supporting children’s emotional development and behaviour. Through learning about the main behaviour principles and positive behaviour strategies, practitioners will have an opportunity to develop skills to support them to both understand and support children who are dysregulated.
Practitioners will
- Learn about simple strategies and resources that are effective at supporting the needs of all children
- Use case studies to consider what children’s behaviour is communicating
- Understand the need to support children’s personal social and emotional development
- Be able to develop positive behaviour support strategies
- Learn ways to analyse behaviour, look at potential triggers and work out the changes you can make to support the child
- Consider ways of ensuring strategies are implemented consistently throughout the setting

SEN Support and Emerging Needs Webinar
For Early Years SENCOs and other Early Years Practitioners who want to know more about and gain practical advice about meeting the needs of children who require SEN Support.
Practitioners will:
- Understand what SEN Support is and how the graduated approach works
- Learn about how to implement and record the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle
- Learn best practice regarding coproduction of the SEN Support Plan
- Understand how to make an application for an Education, Health, and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA)
- Learn how to prepare for attending a SEND forum

SENDCO Training for New and Aspiring SENCOs
This is a two-day in person course.
The SENDCO plays a crucial role in the quality of any setting. The role though, can often be a daunting one for practitioners wanting to give children with additional needs the best start possible. This informative course will give you the tools you need to take forward your responsibilities to be an excellent EYFS SENCO.
- Understand the requirements of SEND Code of Practice and how to implement them in your setting.
- Learn about early identification, categories of SEND and assessment
- Consider excellent practice in involving parents
- Learn about the Graduated Approach, Ordinarily Available Provision and the Assess, Plan, Do Review Process.
- Develop confidence through group work and discussion.
- Begin to understand what information should be on an SEN Support plan and the processes involved in applying for an Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment.
NEW and aspiring SENCOS – is particularly aimed at settings who do not currently have a trained SENCO. Please note one place per setting will be allocated except in exceptional circumstances to try and ensure that all settings in Buckinghamshire have a trained SENCO. Those practitioners who would like to gain more knowledge of SEND should consider completing the I’m not the SENCO course.

Transitions - Moving In and Moving On Webinar
Transitioning into a new setting or moving on to school is an important event in a child’s life. Getting this right is key to ensuring a positive start to the next chapter in their journey. This course will give you the tools and knowledge to make the transition process a positive one for both children and their families. We will be especially looking at transitions for those children who are more vulnerable and may need more specific and personalised transition plans for example, those with SEND, EAL or those eligible for Early Years Pupil Premium.
