AET - Good Autism Practice

This training will support practitioners working directly with children on the autism spectrum or on the pathway to a diagnosis in early years settings. By attending this training it will:
- enable practitioners to develop their knowledge and understanding of good autism practice.
- provide guidelines and activities to help practitioners to improve their practice when caring for or working with autistic children.
- introduce practitioners to the early years autism competency framework to evaluate and develop how they work.

AET - Leading The Way In Good Autism Practice Webinar

This training is aimed at Early Years Heads/SENCOs /Managers and Senior leaders, who are able to impact practice across their whole Early Years Setting and are ideally in a leadership role
- support leaders/SENCOs and senior practitioners to create culture change across their provision.
- support them to have the skills, tools and confidence to lead change in their setting.
- signpost participants to associated resources to support them to fully embed the 8 principles of good autism practice and audit their current provision.
- help participants to have a good understanding of educational legislation related to inclusion.

This course is aimed at Reception Class Practitioners who will be having will have an autistic child (with or without a diagnosis) in their class in September 2026.
Attending this training will:
- provide a basic understanding of Autism, including hints and tips to support autistic children transition into a setting or school.
- demonstrate the importance of getting to know the child as an individual.
- approach autism as a difference rather than as a disorder or impairment.
- help participants understand how autism can affect an autistic child.
- help participants reflect on their transition practice and implement reasonable adjustments to support autistic children transition.

AET – Autism and Play Webinar
Attending this training will:

Help participants understand that autism is a DIFFERENCE not a DEFICIT.

demonstrate how the three areas of difference in autism impact on the development of play skills.

show the importance of all adults working together to support the child to develop play skills.

Develop knowledge of how to support autistic children to develop play skills.
-
enable participants to create and deliver a plan to ensure progress in play skills, which includes consideration of how to remove barriers and make reasonable adjustments.
Settings can get a funded place on this course if a practitioner has attended Good Autism Practice or Leading the Way in Good Autism Practice.

Curiosity Programme Training
Part of the Inclusion Training Programme
Delivered by Lyndsay Barlow, Co-owner, and Director of Attention Autism & Specially Subsidised for Buckinghamshire Early Years Service
The Curiosity Programme targets creating interest and delight in interaction and communication exchanges. The programme introduces strategies for building connections with trusted adults, non-speaking social communication skills, curiosity and early play. There are demonstrations of the techniques in action, films of the work with children, practical hands-on experience for participants and ideas for activities. The workshop provides opportunities for attendees to try activities at each stage, discuss its’ application in their setting and develop confidence in running the programme within their school.
This programme is designed to support children
- who need to work 1:1 before starting the Attention Autism 4 stage programme.
- are too young to be working in a group e.g. developmentally younger than 2.6 years old
- have additional complex needs and would benefit from a programme to encourage them to flourish in the earliest stages of communication, interaction and attention development.
- do not yet have the skills needed for group working.

Early Years SENCO Briefing Webinar
EY SENCO Briefings are online webinars run by members of the Early Years Service who have specialisms and expertise in supporting children with additional needs.
- The groups are an opportunity to
- hear local and national SEND updates
- access SEND related training
- ask individual questions of our SEND Advisors.
If your SENCO is unable to attend, please try and send someone in their place. More details of the focus of the groups will be available termly on the EY SENCO Briefing page of our website.

Early Years SENDCO Training
Part of the Inclusion Training Programme
This is a two-day in person course.
Attending this training will:
- Give SENDCOs the tools they need to be an excellent EYFS SENDCO.
- Help SENDCOs understand the requirements of SEND Code of Practice and how to implement them in their setting.
- Help SENDCOs learn about early identification, categories of SEND and assessment
- Consider excellent practice in involving parents
- Give information about the Graduated Approach, Ordinarily Available Provision and the Assess, Plan, Do Review Process.
For new SENDCOS, those who are aspiring to become a SENDCO and those SENDCOs wishing to refresh their SEN knowledge.

I'm Not the SENCO - what should I be doing? Webinar
Part of the Inclusion Training Programme
Attending this training will:
- provide EYFS practitioners with practical information about implementing the SEND Code of Practice
- support them to manage and develop the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle
- develop SEN Support Plans
Invaluable for practitioners to help them to support their SENCO to improve outcomes for children with Special Educational Needs or a Disability.

Seeing Beyond Behaviour - Webinar
Part of the Inclusion Training Programme
This training session allows EYFS practitioners opportunity to consider effective strategies for supporting children’s emotional development and behaviour. Through learning about the main behaviour principles and positive behaviour strategies, practitioners will have an opportunity to develop skills to support them to both understand and support children who are dysregulated.
Practitioners will
- Learn about simple strategies and resources that are effective at supporting the needs of all children
- Use case studies to consider what children’s behaviour is communicating
- Understand the need to support children’s personal social and emotional development
- Be able to develop positive behaviour support strategies
- Learn ways to analyse behaviour, look at potential triggers and work out the changes you can make to support the child
- Consider ways of ensuring strategies are implemented consistently throughout the setting

Transitions - Moving In and Moving On Webinar

Transitioning into a new setting or moving on to school is an important event in a child’s life. Getting this right is key to ensuring a positive start to the next chapter in their journey.
Attending this training will:
- give you the tools and knowledge to make the transition process a positive one for both children and their families.
- support transitions for those children who are more vulnerable and may need more specific and personalised transition plans for example, those with SEND, EAL or those eligible for Early Years Pupil Premium.

Trauma Informed Practice Webinar

Attending this training will:
- raise awareness of trauma and its long-term impact on children and young people
- starts to explore strategies to support children and young people
- help participants think about the statistics relating to vulnerable children and young people
- give an overview of the different types of attachment and how these present
- Inform about how trauma impacts development
